Important dates for voters
- register to vote by midnight, Tuesday 16 April 2024
- apply for a postal vote by 5pm, Wednesday 17 April 2024
- apply for a proxy vote by 5pm Wednesday 24 April 2024
Polling day: Thursday 2 May 2024, from 7am to 10pm.
Who can vote
To vote in the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections you must:
- be registered to vote
- live in London
- be at least 18 years old on the day of the elections
- be a British citizen, a European Union citizen or a Commonwealth citizen who has or does not require leave to remain in the UK
If you aren't yet registered, you can register to vote online
Ways to vote
Voting in person on polling day
You can vote at the polling station on 2 May 2024.

- the ballot paper(s)
- opening and closing times for polling stations
- photographic voter ID required to vote at a polling station
- assistance and disability support available to residents at a polling station
Voting by post
The deadline to register to vote by post is Wednesday 17 April 2024, by 5pm
We must receive your completed postal vote pack by 10pm on polling day.
Please ensure you post your postal vote in sufficient time so that it can be delivered by Royal Mail. You can also deliver it in person at any time up until 10pm on the day of the by-election to the Returning Officer at:

Apply for someone to vote on your behalf (proxy voting)
You must be registered to vote before you can apply to vote by proxy.
The deadline to register to vote by proxy is Wednesday 24 April, 5pm.

- Publication of Statement of Persons nominated on Tuesday 2 April 2024
- Deadline to register to vote on Tuesday 16 April 2024 (midnight)
- Receipt of postal vote applications on Wednesday 17 April 2024 (5pm)
- Deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate on Wednesday 24 April 2024 (5pm)
